13-6-2024 (NEW YORK) In a candid interview with the hosts of “The Talk,” Nina Dobrev, the 35-year-old actress renowned for her role in “The Vampire Diaries,” shed light on the harrowing ordeal she endured following a dirt bike accident that left her with a severe knee injury. The incident, which occurred several months ago, has forced Dobrev to navigate a challenging recovery process, one that she has courageously embraced with resilience and determination.
Recounting the terrifying moments leading up to the crash, Dobrev revealed, “I don’t recommend it, guys. It’s okay, I learned a lesson, don’t ever get on a dirt bike. I was in a wheely, lost control, whisky throttled, bike flew.” Her vivid recollection painted a picture of the split-second loss of control that ultimately led to her injury.
Fortunately, Dobrev narrowly escaped a potentially more severe outcome. “Luckily, it didn’t fall on me, which is what the doctor said would have been a lot worse,” she explained. However, the impact of the landing was still devastating, as she recalled, “But when I landed, I landed on one leg, straight, and my knee just like snapped.”
The aftermath of the accident required immediate medical attention, and Dobrev underwent surgery to repair her fractured knee. “I had knee surgery; I got a giant brace. I can’t really walk on my own yet…I had a fractured knee as well as ACL repair and meniscus,” she revealed, shedding light on the extent of her injuries and the arduous recovery process that lay ahead.
During her appearance on “The Talk,” Dobrev acknowledged the significance of the occasion, stating, “It was my first time actually leaving the house in over two months,” aside from a recent hospital visit. Her confinement underscored the gravity of her condition and the dedication required for her rehabilitation.
Last week, Dobrev shared an update on her progress, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received. “Surgery was a success. Thank you to everyone who has been sending kind messages, thoughts, prayers, and good vibes. I have been feeling the support and positive energy. It means more than you will ever know,” she wrote on Instagram.
Prior to her surgery, Dobrev candidly admitted her apprehensions, revealing on her Instagram Story, “Anyone else get scared before surgery? I’m such a baby when it comes to needles, blood or procedures of any kind.” Her vulnerability resonated with her followers, showcasing the human side of her journey.
As part of the pre-operative protocol, Dobrev shared a lighthearted moment with her fans, showcasing the precautions taken to ensure the correct limb was operated on. In a video, she demonstrated the process of marking her knee with an arrow and the word “Yes,” explaining, “Fun fact: they make you draw on whatever extremity is being operated on to confirm that is the correct limb. (Because I guess it’s happened in the past that some surgeons have accidentally operated on the wrong limb.) Yikes!!!”
