5-6-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a development surrounding the alleged assault case involving a disabled ehailing driver and a member of a VIP’s security detail, Ong Ing Keong, 46, is believed to have met with Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain on Wednesday (June 5).
Checks revealed that Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) did not summon Ong for questioning. However, he was spotted entering the police headquarters at around 10.45 am, accompanied by Latheefa Koya and N. Surendran from Lawyers For Liberty (LFL).
Sources indicate that Ong met with the IGP himself at Bukit Aman. Earlier, Razarudin had stated that police would call in both Ong and the officers involved in the case as part of the investigation.
An official statement is expected to be issued once Ong and the lawyers conclude their meeting at Bukit Aman.
The incident in question occurred on May 28, when Ong, a disabled ehailing driver, lodged a report at 1 pm, alleging that he had been assaulted by a member of a VIP’s security escort while waiting for a customer at the St Regis Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, Ong filed a second report at 9.59 pm on the same day, claiming that the matter had been resolved amicably and that he did not wish to pursue the case further.
However, Ong later alleged that he had been offered RM800 to settle the matter, raising concerns about potential coercion or undue influence.
The alleged assault on the disabled ehailing driver has garnered significant public attention and sparked discussions about the conduct of security personnel and the treatment of vulnerable individuals.
