2-6-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A minor earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck approximately 50 kilometres off the coast of Semporna, Sabah, on Friday afternoon.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the quake’s epicentre was located at 4.4 degrees north and 118.9 degrees east, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The tremor occurred at 2:49 PM local time.
MetMalaysia has assured the public that the earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia. While residents in the area may have felt a slight shaking, the relatively low magnitude indicates there is no cause for serious concern.
