30-5-2024 (BANGKOK) One of two British men who were recently assaulted by security guards at a local bar has filed a formal complaint with the authorities. The other individual, however, refrained from reporting the attack due to safety concerns.
According to Pol Col Nawin Theerawit, chief of Pattaya police, officers located the two foreigners depicted in the viral video clips of the assault and requested that they provide statements and file a complaint against their attackers. One of the Britons, Bryce Mahoney, aged 42, obliged and appeared at the Pattaya City police station on Wednesday to give his account of the incident.
Mahoney informed the police that the assault occurred on his birthday, May 24th. He and two other friends had been drinking at the Helicopter Bar on Soi 6 since noon. After consuming alcohol, a dispute over the bill payment escalated into violence, leading to the brutal altercation caught on camera.
Despite sustaining bruises on his face, head, and body, Mahoney pressed ahead with filing a formal complaint against those involved in the assault. His friend, who was also a victim of the attack, chose not to file a complaint due to concerns for his safety if he remained in Pattaya, according to the police.

The three security guards involved in the incident – Ball, 27, Tom, 36, and Ice, 24 – were arrested by the authorities on May 26. During questioning, they confessed to their actions, with Ball stating that a foreign customer had initially shoved and punched him, breaking his nose and requiring six stitches. He expressed remorse, acknowledging that he and his colleagues had lost control and overreacted to the situation.
The brawl was captured on video by onlookers using their mobile phones, providing crucial evidence of the incident. The footage showed a security guard being attacked first, followed by the three guards retaliating against their assailants.
Initially, the three attackers were charged with working as security guards without the necessary permission, an offense that carries a potential jail term of up to three months and/or a fine of up to 5,000 baht each. However, the police stated that additional charges of physical assault would be filed against them.
