30-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a case that has sparked debates around personal freedom and societal norms, a 29-year-old woman named Sarah Phoon was fined RM2,000 (approximately S$574) for possessing 102 sex toys, according to reports from Bayan Lepas.
The incident unfolded at a shopping complex on Persiaran Bayan Indah, where Phoon was apprehended by authorities earlier today at 2.30 pm. The court proceedings revealed that she was found in possession of the controversial goods, which are considered illegal under Malaysian law.
Phoon was subsequently fined RM2,000, with the warning that failure to pay the fine would result in a two-month prison sentence. The charge against her fell under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which prohibits the sale or possession of such items deemed to erode moral values.
