28-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A joyous recreational outing to the scenic Broga Hill turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a 16-year-old boy, who had gone missing during the excursion, was found deceased on Tuesday afternoon. The grim discovery brought a sombre conclusion to an extensive search and rescue operation that had been launched the previous day.
According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, the teenager’s lifeless body was located at approximately 2.50 pm, merely 100 meters from the entrance gate to the popular hiking destination. Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail, the department’s director, revealed the distressing details, stating, “He was found unconscious and seemed to have suffered a fall from a cliff about 10 metres high.”
Despite the swift response of medical personnel from the Health Ministry, the teen was tragically pronounced deceased at 3.42 pm, dashing hopes of a miraculous survival.
The harrowing ordeal began on Monday at 4.08 pm when emergency services received a call reporting the disappearance of the teenager, who had become separated from his guardian and friends during their outing. Immediately, a multi-agency search operation was mobilized, with rescue teams from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station, police officers, mountain guides, forest rangers, members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, and volunteers from the Serdang Fire Brigade converging on the scene.
“The sweeping method was used, starting from peak three down to the Control Centre, and the search continued until 2.30 am on the first day,” Wan Md Razali recounted, highlighting the extensive efforts undertaken by the dedicated search crews, who combed an area spanning 1.5 kilometres.
