27-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) The Johor customs department has dismantled a major drug trafficking syndicate operating in the region. Authorities confiscated a staggering 51 kilograms of cocaine valued at a whopping RM10.3 million ($1.9 million) during a meticulous inspection at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas.
The illicit substance was discovered ingeniously concealed within the air-conditioning compressor of a shipping container, according to Johor customs director Aminul Izmeer Sohaimi. The inspection was conducted last week by a team of vigilant officers acting on intelligence gathered by the department’s dedicated intelligence division.
“The contents in the container, believed to be from China and headed to Sarawak, were declared as 2,900 packets of onions,” Aminul revealed. “However, a thorough inspection revealed 50 plastic packages containing white powder hidden in the air-conditioning compressor of the container.”
