26-5-2024 (BANGKOK) In a shocking turn of events, a Belgian man, aged 42, has been apprehended by authorities for allegedly taking the life of his fellow countryman, a 49-year-old Belgian friend, in this northeastern Thai province. The grim discovery was made after the suspect attempted to dispose of the victim’s motorcycle, leading to a chain of events that unraveled the gruesome crime.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect, known only as Steve, was arrested in the adjacent Nakhon Phanom province while transporting the victim’s motorcycle on his pickup truck. Narcotics suppression detectives, during a routine search, stumbled upon the incriminating evidence, prompting further investigation.
In a startling confession, Steve admitted to shooting his friend, identified as Christophe, three times with a .22 caliber pistol at his residence in the Seka Tai sub-district of Seka district, Bueng Kan province, on Friday. The motive, as revealed by the suspect, stemmed from a long-standing financial dispute between the two men.
Steve claimed that Christophe had repeatedly demanded money from him, and when the demand was rejected on Friday, tensions escalated to a dangerous level. According to the suspect, Christophe threatened to harm his family and set fire to his house, prompting Steve to take the drastic action of ending his friend’s life.
In a chilling attempt to cover up the crime, Steve resorted to burning Christophe’s body in a pit filled with rubber tires and sticks near his house. However, his efforts to dispose of the victim’s motorcycle in a pond in Ban Phaeng district, Nakhon Phanom province, ultimately led to his undoing.
