25-5-2024 (BANGKOK) Thailand has emerged as the leading Asian destination for European tourists, according to a recent survey conducted by the international online travel booking platform Agoda.
The survey ranked Thailand as the top choice, followed by Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Pierre Honne, Agoda’s senior country director for Thailand, highlighted that European tourists frequently search for hotels in Phuket, with Bangkok and Krabi also ranking high in their preferences.
Honne noted that Phuket, Bangkok, and Krabi attract international tourists due to their unique blend of leisure, adventure, and cultural experiences, making them especially popular during the long summer holidays.
Agoda’s data also revealed a significant 52% increase in the number of European tourists searching for hotel deals in Asia compared to the previous year. The majority of these tourists hail from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Honne attributed the popularity of Asian destinations among European travellers to the region’s diverse attractions, ranging from historical sites in Bangkok to the surf-friendly beaches of Bali.
