24-5-2024 (HANOI) A devastating fire at a rental building in Hanoi’s capital early Friday morning resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals and left three others injured, according to local media reports.
The fire broke out in a multistory building located in a narrow alley, approximately two meters wide and 200 meters from Trung Kinh Street, which rendered it inaccessible to fire trucks, VnExpress reported. The building spans an area of 100 square meters and features two rooms per floor. The ground floor was used for electric bicycle sales and repairs, as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire, which erupted at around 12:30 a.m., was likely caused by a short circuit in an electric bicycle. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
In the first four months of this year, Vietnam has experienced 1,555 fires and explosions, resulting in 28 deaths and 26 injuries. These incidents have caused property losses estimated at approximately 89.8 billion Vietnamese dong (3.5 million U.S. dollars), according to the General Statistics Office.
