21-5-2024 (BANGKOK) A Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok after encountering severe turbulence, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries among those on board.
The harrowing ordeal unfolded on Tuesday when Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, a Boeing 777-300ER carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, encountered turbulence of an unprecedented intensity during its journey from London’s Heathrow Airport to Singapore.
Faced with a critical situation, the pilot made the difficult decision to divert the aircraft to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, where it landed at 3:45 pm local time (4:45 pm Singapore time). The airline confirmed the tragic news in a Facebook post later that evening, stating, “We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER.”
In the aftermath of the incident, Singapore Airlines has pledged its full cooperation with local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance to those affected. “Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft,” the airline stated, adding that a team has been dispatched to Bangkok to offer additional support.
