21-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a bizarre and unfortunate turn of events, a mutton soup restaurant in Simpang Ampat, Penang found itself facing significant financial loss after a crow, shot by enforcement officers, accidentally fell into a freshly prepared pot of oxtail soup.
The remarkable incident, captured on video and posted on Facebook by the restaurant’s owners, has garnered widespread attention, highlighting the rare and unsavory circumstances that led to the ruination of an entire day’s worth of oxtail soup.
According to the twin proprietors of the establishment, the incident unfolded after they had meticulously prepared the oxtail soup, setting it out for sale to their eager customers. However, their efforts were abruptly derailed when a crow, struck by enforcement officers, plummeted directly into the steaming pot, contaminating the entire batch.
The video footage vividly depicts the officers retrieving the lifeless bird from the soup, a scene that the owners described as utterly disgusting. The gravity of the situation became evident as they realized the substantial financial implications of the mishap.
“The large pot of oxtail soup was meant to supply customers for the entire day,” one of the owners lamented. “However, with the crow falling into it, the entire pot had to be discarded, leading to a loss of up to RM2,000 (approximately S$573).”
The owners further explained that the crow’s blood and feathers had dispersed throughout the soup, leaving them with no choice but to dispose of the entire batch and initiate a thorough cleaning process before resuming their cooking operations.
Adding insult to injury, as the officers retrieved the crow’s body from the soup, they inadvertently dropped it onto the pot’s lid, leaving visible bloodstains and feathers – a sight that the owners described as “extremely unpleasant.”
Faced with this unexpected predicament, the resourceful proprietors have since approached the relevant government department to seek compensation for the incident. They reported positive negotiations with officials and are now awaiting further response.
