16-5-2024 (BANGKOK) A Korean national has confessed to the murder of a fellow countryman whose body was discovered in Chon Buri on Saturday, according to South Korean authorities. The gruesome crime involved strangling the victim and placing his body in a concrete-filled barrel.
The chilling details emerged after the suspect and two accomplices reportedly drugged and strangled the victim, identified as Roh Eui-jong, 34. They then concealed his body in a plastic barrel before dumping it in Map Prachan reservoir in Bang Lamung district, en route to Pattaya.
An investigation team from Khlong Tan police station received information about the suspect from South Korean police on Wednesday. According to a police source, Roh’s body was found over the weekend, tightly sealed in the barrel.
Two of the three suspects have been apprehended. One was captured in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Tuesday, while another was arrested in Gyeongnam province, South Korea, on Sunday. The third suspect, identified as Kim Hyung-won, is believed to be near the Myanmar border, evading capture.
The suspect who confessed, whose identity remains undisclosed, admitted to meeting Roh at an entertainment venue in Bangkok’s RCA area. He revealed that Roh was drugged with a sleeping pill and, while unconscious, was placed into their car. When Roh regained consciousness en route to Pattaya, a struggle ensued, leading to his strangulation.
The suspects transported Roh’s body to a house in the Rom Klao area of Bangkok, where they placed it in a barrel before disposing of it in the reservoir. Following this confession, Khlong Tan police have seized the vehicle used in the crime for forensic examination, with results expected in a few days.
The Southern Bangkok Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for the trio, charging them with murder, concealment of a body, illegal confinement, and theft.
