10-5-2024 (SINGAPORE) A blaze erupted at 3 Toa Payoh Industrial Park on the night of May 9, stirring alarm and prompting swift action from emergency services.
Social media platforms buzzed with videos of the inferno as early as 9:57 pm on Thursday, capturing the intensity of the unfolding situation.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported just after midnight on May 10 that the fire spanned an area equivalent to about four basketball courts and involved two units within the industrial park. One of the units housed a car workshop, while the other served as an industrial workshop.
Efforts to contain the blaze lasted approximately 1.5 hours, employing six water jets and an unmanned firefighting machine. A significant deployment of resources ensued, with 15 emergency vehicles and around 60 firefighters mobilized to the scene.
During the firefighting operation, one firefighter experienced leg cramps but remained conscious and stable. As a precautionary measure, he was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.
SCDF is currently engaged in damping down operations to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
Videos circulating online depicted the severity of the blaze, capturing scenes of raging flames and the arrival of firefighting vehicles. Witnesses recounted hearing multiple explosions, underscoring the intensity of the incident.
Despite the distance, residents in the vicinity reported smelling thick smoke, further highlighting the scale of the fire.
SCDF promptly confirmed the fire in a Facebook post at 10:35 pm, signaling the commencement of emergency response efforts.
