6-5-2024 (SINGAPORE) Tragedy struck in the early hours of May 6 as a fire engulfed a Housing Board flat in Whampoa, resulting in the loss of one life.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received notification of the incident at Block 76 Lorong Limau around 2:30 am, as revealed in a subsequent Facebook update on the same day.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense flames emanating from a unit on the sixth floor, necessitating forced entry to combat the blaze, SCDF reported.
Regrettably, one individual was discovered lifeless within a bedroom, as pronounced by attending paramedics. Meanwhile, two other occupants were successfully rescued from the utility room within the kitchen area and promptly transported to Singapore General Hospital for treatment.
SCDF personnel from the Central Fire Station and Bishan Fire Station mobilized two water jets to douse the flames, which had spread throughout the entire premises.
As a precautionary measure, approximately 200 residents from nearby units were evacuated under the coordination of police and SCDF authorities, while investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway.
