22-4-2024 (BANGKOK) In a shocking incident that has left guests and staff at a Phuket hotel utterly flabbergasted, a 31-year-old Portuguese woman, identified as Nadiya Serivna Varshawa, has sparked outrage by walking around the premises topless and reportedly refusing to settle her accommodation bill. The Phuket Times, on April 21, issued a stern warning to accommodation operators in the province, urging them to be aware of the disruptive behavior exhibited by the foreign tourist.
According to the report, Nadiya booked a hotel room but was unable to pay for it, resorting to borrowing money to cover her taxi fare and claiming that she only had a credit card. Her brazen actions escalated as she strolled around the hotel grounds topless, clad only in a lengthy skirt, and approached strangers, requesting money from them. Adding to the chaos, she ordered food but failed to pay for it, leaving hotel staff in a precarious situation.
The news agency accompanied its warning with images that depicted the extent of Nadiya’s disruptive behavior. One image showed her walking topless through the hotel grounds, while another revealed the disheveled state of her rented room, with clothes and accessories strewn across the floor, empty plastic bottles, and other litter scattered about.
This incident is not the first time Nadiya has made headlines in Thailand. Earlier this month, she was involved in a dispute with a taxi driver after refusing to pay her fare and allegedly threatening to stab the driver with a knife. The Chalong Police Station investigated the crime and discovered that Nadiya had a mental illness, though no further action was taken at the time.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among Thai social media users, who have urged authorities to intervene and address Nadiya’s disruptive behavior before it escalates further. Some users have criticized the authorities for allowing her to remain in the country despite her repeated offenses and disregard for local laws and customs.
A Thai Facebook user, Kik Yossawadee, shared insights into Nadiya’s background, revealing that her family members have attempted to take her back home for treatment, but she repeatedly runs away. Another netizen claimed that Nadiya had tricked her friend into paying for her shopping spree and stole her friend’s phone, although it was later recovered.
As of now, no official department has taken action to address the situation, leaving accommodation operators and the general public concerned about the potential risks posed by Nadiya’s erratic behavior. The incident has highlighted the need for a more robust system to deal with cases involving foreign nationals with mental health issues, ensuring the safety and well-being of both tourists and locals alike.
