22-4-2024 (BANGKOK) Wang Nan, a 37-year-old woman, visited the Pha Taem National Park on April 20th to express her heartfelt thanks to the rescuers who saved her life after a harrowing ordeal five years ago. On that fateful day in June 2019, Wang Nan’s then-husband, Yu Xiaodong, pushed her off a cliff at the national park in an alleged attempt to settle his gambling debts.
The incident, which left Wang Nan with multiple fractures and the tragic loss of her unborn child, has since concluded with Yu Xiaodong being sentenced to 33 years in prison by Thailand’s Supreme Court. Wang Nan has also filed for divorce, severing ties with the man who nearly ended her life.
During her visit, Wang Nan embraced her rescuers, shedding tears of gratitude for their heroic actions that day. Photographs captured the emotional reunion, as she stood alongside the individuals who played a pivotal role in her survival. Wang Nan even mustered the courage to revisit the site of the incident, a testament to her remarkable strength and determination to confront the past.
According to reports from The Straits Times, Wang Nan’s then-husband allegedly pushed her off the cliff in an attempt to pay off his gambling debts, which her wealthy family had refused to settle. At the time of the incident, the couple had been living in Thailand for three years, and Wang Nan was pregnant with their child.
The fall from a height of 34 meters left her with multiple fractures, and tragically, she lost her unborn child. Despite the initial support of her then-husband, who stayed by her side at the hospital, he eventually resorted to threats to keep her silent. However, Thai authorities ultimately intervened and arrested him during one of his hospital visits.
Remarkably, despite the trauma and pain she endured, Wang Nan remains steadfast in her belief in love. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, she expressed her desire for her story to serve as an example for other women, emphasizing the importance of assessing a man’s character and actions rather than being swayed by mere words and promises.
