21-4-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Two police officers, previously apprehended for allegedly extorting a traveller at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine complex, have once again been detained on suspicion of committing another act of extortion.
According to Supt Lim Jit Huey, the deputy police chief of Johor Bahru Selatan, the arrests were carried out on Friday following a report filed by the victim, who claimed to have been coerced into surrendering RM1,000 (S$282.32) by two police personnel at BSI earlier this year.
“The police apprehended two suspects, aged 33 and 34, on the same day at 5:30 p.m. after the report was lodged. These individuals are the same ones who were previously arrested for a similar offence,” stated Supt Lim.
He further mentioned that both suspects, currently in remand until tomorrow, have tested negative for drugs.
“Johor police is dedicated to combating issues of integrity and criminal misconduct among its officers and personnel to enhance public trust in the force,” affirmed Supt Lim.
A 50-year-old Malaysian, known only as Ng, alleged that two police officers accused him of possessing pornographic materials on his phone while he was passing through Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine complex on Jan 4.
Ng claimed that the officers demanded RM1,000 from him to resolve the matter before escorting him to an ATM to withdraw the money.
Earlier this month, the same duo of officers were apprehended for attempting to extort RM2,000 from a local individual at BSI. They were granted police bail on April 9, following the conclusion of their remand period.
Supt Lim clarified that although the officers had not yet received their suspension letters, they were no longer on duty at BSI.
