18-4-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a harrowing incident that has shed light on the devastating effects of domestic violence, a 31-year-old woman in Malaysia was mercilessly beaten by her husband after she questioned his faithfulness. The horrific assault, which occurred in the early hours of Friday (12 April), left the victim, known only by her surname Qiu, with multiple injuries, including lost teeth and a requirement for stitches.
According to reports from China Press, Qiu and her 43-year-old husband, identified as Ah Wen, had been out drinking at a bar on the fateful night. As they embarked on their journey home around 2 am, Ah Wen received a phone call from an unknown number, immediately raising Qiu’s suspicions. In light of previous instances where her husband had received late-night calls, Qiu repeatedly questioned him about the potential for infidelity, unwittingly igniting a violent rage within her spouse.
As the couple’s vehicle came to a halt at a red light, Ah Wen unleashed a relentless barrage of punches upon his wife, striking her an estimated 30 times. Qiu’s pleas for mercy fell on deaf ears, and her attempts to escape the confines of the vehicle were thwarted by her husband, who forcibly pulled her back inside on three separate occasions.
The brutal assault continued unabated until Qiu managed to call a friend for assistance. Upon arriving at the scene, the friend’s presence helped defuse the situation, prompting Ah Wen to drive his battered wife to a nearby clinic for medical treatment.
In a heart-wrenching display of the physical and emotional trauma she endured, Qiu revealed the extent of her injuries to China Press. In addition to the bruises and wounds adorning her face and lips, she sustained injuries to her body and legs. “I thought I would die by his punches. His eyes looked like he was about to murder me, there was no emotion at all,” she recounted, her voice laced with anguish.
Disturbingly, Qiu confessed that she was aware of Ah Wen’s volatile temperament and propensity for physical altercations even before their marriage. However, she had harbored the belief that his professed love for her would prevent him from ever raising a hand against her. Tragically, this notion was shattered mere days after their first anniversary, leaving Qiu utterly disillusioned.
In the aftermath of the assault, Qiu has taken decisive action, filing a police report and initiating divorce proceedings. Her disappointment and disillusionment are palpable, as she grapples with the harsh reality that the man she once trusted has betrayed her in the most brutal of ways.
For his part, Ah Wen has expressed remorse for his actions, attributing his loss of control to his wife’s persistent questioning about his fidelity. He claims that Qiu’s suspicions were unrelenting, even in the face of his denials, ultimately pushing him beyond his limits. “There’s a limit to how much a person can tolerate. I really couldn’t take it anymore, that’s why I hit her. I know that hitting her was wrong, and now I feel like I’ve let my wife down,” he confessed to China Press.
Ah Wen further divulged that, in an effort to assuage Qiu’s suspicions, he had relinquished work opportunities and diligently handed over his entire salary to her each month. Despite these concessions, his wife’s doubts persisted, ultimately culminating in the tragic event that has irrevocably shattered their relationship.
As the investigation into this case proceeds, Ah Wen has pledged his full cooperation with the authorities, acknowledging the gravity of his actions and the consequences that lie ahead.
