16-4-2024 (TEL AVIV) Israel’s military chief, Lt Gen Herzi Halevi, has issued a warning that Iran’s recent strike will not go unanswered. The statement comes as world leaders urge restraint in order to prevent a dangerous escalation of violence in the Middle East.
Although Lt Gen Herzi Halevi did not provide specific details regarding the timing or nature of Israel’s response, he made it clear that action would be taken. Speaking alongside him, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the army’s spokesman, stated that Israel would act according to its own timetable.
The comments were made at the Nevatim air base in southern Israel, which was among the locations in the country that incurred damage during the Iranian attack.
In a related development, UN inspectors responsible for monitoring Iranian nuclear sites have announced that the facilities have been temporarily closed by Iran. This decision was made in light of “security considerations” following the increased threat of Israeli strikes on Tehran’s atomic installations.
Rafael Grossi, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that inspections would resume once the situation had completely calmed down. Grossi emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
The international community is closely monitoring the situation, fearing that any further military action could have severe consequences for regional stability.
