15-4-2024 (HANOI) Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, touched down in Hanoi on Monday, embarking on a significant two-day visit to Vietnam, a pivotal manufacturing hub for the tech giant’s iconic iPhone lineup. Amidst this visit, Cook is slated to engage with students, content creators, and end-users of Apple products, as reported by state media.
According to online newspaper VietnamNet, Cook’s itinerary includes meetings with local users of Apple products, aiming to glean insights into their usage patterns and experiences.
Upon his arrival, Cook affirmed Apple’s commitment to strengthening ties with local suppliers, supporting clean water initiatives, and enhancing educational opportunities in Vietnam. “Apple would boost its connection with local suppliers, clean water projects and education opportunities,” he was quoted as saying.
The visit comes against the backdrop of mounting pressure on Apple to address human rights and environmental concerns in Vietnam. Last week, over 60 human and environmental rights organisations penned a letter to Apple, urging the tech giant to intervene in Vietnam’s detention of climate experts. Activist groups underscored the significance of Apple’s manufacturing links to Vietnam, calling upon the company to leverage its influence to address these pressing issues.
