9-4-2024 (YANGON) The State Administration Council (SAC) information team has confirmed that eligible volunteers convened at designated regional military command headquarters to undergo training as part of Myanmar’s inaugural militia service programme.
Commencing with opening ceremonies at local training schools, the events saw speeches delivered by the respective commandants, with regional and state chief ministers in attendance to commemorate the occasion. Subsequently, officials engaged with the trainees, offering both words of encouragement and financial assistance.
The initiation of the People’s Military Service Law, ratified in November 2010, saw its formal implementation on February 10, 2024. Since March 9, young individuals across Myanmar have been summoned to partake in this inaugural militia service training initiative.
SAC spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun had previously announced on March 27 that the initial cohort of volunteers predominantly originated from the Yangon Region and were largely self-identified participants.
