8-4-2024 (SINGAPORE) A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight en route to Singapore experienced an unexpected turn of events, prompting its return to Sydney shortly after departing on April 7.
The flight, SQ232, reversed course following the detection of a technical issue, landing back at Sydney International Airport at 12:42 pm local time, as confirmed by an SIA spokesperson to The Straits Times.
On board the Airbus A380 were 474 passengers and 27 crew members. Originally scheduled to depart Sydney at 11 am local time with an anticipated arrival in Singapore at 5:30 pm, the flight faced an abrupt interruption.
Responding to inquiries from ST, the SIA spokesperson disclosed that the technical glitch was promptly addressed, allowing the aircraft to resume its journey to Singapore at 4:19 pm local time.
Despite the setback, the flight eventually touched down at Changi Airport at 10:24 pm, approximately five hours behind its initial schedule.
#SQ232 stopped its climb shortly after departure from Sydney, now vectoring southeast of Sydney over the ocean—likely reducing fuel weight in preparation for return to Sydney. https://t.co/H2OYmIvxv1 pic.twitter.com/sxRBNVjA6l
