6-4-2024 (WASHINGTON) The United States is on heightened alert and making preparations for a potential attack by Iran, targeting Israeli or American assets in the region. This response comes in the wake of Israel’s strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria, as confirmed by a US official on April 5.
“We’re definitely at a high state of vigilance,” stated the official, affirming a report by CNN suggesting that an attack could be imminent within the next week.
Suspected Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran’s embassy in Damascus on April 1, resulting in the death of an Iranian military commander. This incident marked a significant escalation in Israel’s ongoing conflict with its regional adversaries.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran has reported that seven Iranian military advisers, including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander within its elite Quds Force, were killed in the strike. The Quds Force serves as an elite foreign espionage and paramilitary unit.
Iran has asserted its right to retaliate decisively, stating that it reserves the option to take a significant response.
US President Joe Biden addressed the threat posed by Iran during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on April 4.
“Our teams have been in regular and continuous contact since then. The United States fully supports the defense of Israel against threats from Iran,” affirmed a senior official from the Biden administration.
