5-4-2024 (SINGAPORE) Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands (MBS) has unveiled the latest artist’s impression of its ambitious expansion project, set to commence full-scale construction by July 2025 and reach completion by July 2029. The multi-billion-dollar endeavor, now entering the final phase of design improvements, promises to elevate Singapore’s status as a premier entertainment and business hub.
The latest rendering showcases a striking 15,000-seat entertainment arena strategically positioned between the existing integrated resort and a fourth luxury hotel tower. With an open frontage, the arena is expected to attract top entertainers from Asia and around the world, further enhancing Singapore’s vibrant entertainment offerings.
Designed by the renowned Safdie Architects, the firm behind the existing MBS property, the expansion will feature a luxury hotel tower adorned with a sky roof, alongside additional premium meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) spaces, as well as new dining and nightlife options.
Patrick Dumont, President and Chief Operating Officer of Las Vegas Sands, MBS’s parent company, expressed confidence in the project’s potential to elevate Singapore’s tourism landscape. “The all-suite hotel tower will set new standards of hospitality, the state-of-the-art arena will help attract the highest-calibre global entertainment events and artistes, and the additional convention and exhibition space will extend the success of Singapore as a leading MICE destination,” he stated.
Dumont further highlighted the expansion’s capacity to drive economic growth, employment opportunities, and visitor numbers for the city-state, solidifying MBS’s position as a key contributor to Singapore’s tourism industry.
The expansion project is distinct from the ongoing US$1.75 billion (S$2.36 billion) reinvestment in the existing property, the largest since MBS’s opening in 2010. This refurbishment has already revitalized the hotel’s Towers 1 and 2, introducing new dining options and luxury lifestyle amenities tailored to high-value travelers. The efforts will now shift towards Tower 3, the lobby, and the iconic Sands SkyPark, featuring new premium dining and retail offerings, among other enhancements, scheduled for completion by 2025.
Since its inception, MBS has welcomed over 470 million visitors and hosted more than 1,750 new-to-Singapore MICE events, directly employing over 11,500 individuals. With the forthcoming expansion, further workforce growth is anticipated to support the integrated resort’s growing operations.
