31-3-2024 (MANILA) A horrifying accident in Batangas province, south of Manila, has left two individuals dead and 22 others injured, according to police reports on Sunday.
The incident occurred at 4:45 p.m. local time on Saturday, when a jeepney collided with a roadside tree in Lobo town, police stated. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating a descending curve.
Tragically, both the 54-year-old male driver and a 52-year-old male passenger succumbed to their injuries while being transported to a local hospital, as confirmed by the police.
Authorities disclosed that the passengers were returning home from a beach resort when the accident took place.
Jeepneys, recognised for their elongated, flatbed design, serve as the primary mode of public transportation in the Philippines. These iconic vehicles have been traversing the streets of the Southeast Asian nation since World War II. Government statistics indicate that approximately 160,000 jeepneys are operational across the country, forming an integral part of the nation’s transportation network.
