31-3-2024 (BANGKOK) The renowned Belgian music extravaganza, Tomorrowland, has officially announced its contemplation of orchestrating a world-class event in Thailand come 2026.
In a statement released, the company affirmed its keen interest in staging a festival in Thailand. However, it emphasised that the current focus remains on conducting a thorough feasibility study. The specifics regarding the date, time, and venue are still under scrutiny and await finalisation.
Simultaneously, a government spokesperson revealed that the private sector is eagerly exploring the potential of hosting such an event.
Debby Wilmsen, Tomorrowland’s representative and head of public relations, disclosed to Billboard on March 29, “Tomorrowland has a genuine interest in Thailand and is earnestly assessing the possibility of hosting a festival there. Presently, the company is diligently investigating the feasibility of the project and has entered into an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Thai private sector partner to conduct this joint study.”
Wilmsen further clarified, “At this juncture, there is no definitive confirmation regarding the actual staging of a festival; this will be determined by the outcomes of the feasibility study.”
The study aims to ascertain whether hosting a Tomorrowland event in Thailand is a viable proposition or not.
Additionally, Tomorrowland expressed gratitude for the welcoming stance of the authorities towards the potential festival.
If realised, this would mark the fourth instance of the event being organised outside of Belgium.
The latest developments align with a statement made by Chai Wacharonke, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, on March 29. He relayed that Tomorrowland’s spokesperson had not formally confirmed the event’s occurrence in Thailand. This is due to the ongoing process of exploring locations and making preparations for the event.
However, the statement did not preclude the possibility of hosting the event in Thailand in the future.
The Thai government has been actively engaged in negotiations with Tomorrowland, with significant strides being made and progress moving in a positive trajectory. The government has communicated to the public that Thailand stands a high chance of hosting this music extravaganza in 2026.
Chai elaborated, “While the government has not yet announced a formal contractual agreement with Tomorrowland International, as negotiations progress positively, it is appropriate to keep the public informed, in line with our approach of working with the private sector.”
“In situations where negotiations show promise, it is crucial to keep stakeholders abreast of potential positive developments, akin to how business negotiations are conducted when favourable trends emerge. It’s imperative to maintain transparency and keep all parties informed,” Chai concluded.
