29-3-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin bin Husain disclosed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had apprehended an Israeli national at a hotel along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday (27 March), in possession of six firearms and approximately 200 bullets.
According to Razarudin, the 36-year-old Israeli national was detained by a PDRM team from the Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department (JSJ). During the operation, authorities discovered that the suspect held dual citizenship, with passports from Israel and France. Notably, he had used his French passport to enter Malaysia via the United Arab Emirates on 12 March.
Subsequent investigations uncovered that the suspect was carrying six firearms, including SIG Sauer, Smith and Wesson, and Glock, concealed within a bag alongside around 200 bullets. Alarmingly, three out of the six firearms were found to be loaded.
Initial inquiries indicated that the man purportedly entered Malaysia with the intention of assassinating another Israeli national due to familial issues. However, the police expressed scepticism regarding this claim. Further probes revealed that the suspect had procured the firearms while in Malaysia, allegedly ordering them through cryptocurrency transactions.
PDRM suspects that the individual did not act alone in orchestrating the purported assassination plot and is currently pursuing leads to identify his associates.
Furthermore, authorities suspect that the Israeli national may have had ulterior motives for visiting Malaysia, speculating that he could be affiliated with the Israeli intelligence agency.
Razarudin confirmed that the suspect is remanded for four days, from yesterday until 31 March, with the case being investigated under Section 12 of the Passport Act 1966 and Section 7 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
