29-3-2024 (HONG KONG) Singer-actress Irene Wan recently shared photos from a celebration that nearly turned disastrous, but not in the way one might expect.
On Sunday (March 24), the 57-year-old artist took to Weibo to extend birthday wishes to Hong Kong talent manager Florence Chen.
“Thank you for being with me during the best moments of my life and creating unforgettable experiences. Your support and guidance in my acting journey have shaped the beautiful life I lead today,” she expressed.
Accompanying her heartfelt message were snapshots of Irene and Chen at the birthday event, captured on a balcony and around a table, with a tealight candle positioned precariously close behind her.
However, what ensued after the photoshoot remained undocumented until Irene revealed the incident later. It transpired that Irene had leaned back too far, inadvertently setting her hair ablaze.
Recalling the terrifying ordeal at a subsequent event on March 27, Irene recounted to HK01, “I was posing for photos and didn’t notice my hair catching fire.”
“Thankfully, my assistant swiftly extinguished the flames. It was a close call; I was utterly shocked!” she shared.
Asked about the condition of her hair, Irene remarked, “Some of it may have thinned and will require reshaping.”
The incident sparked alarm among Weibo users, many deeming it “extremely dangerous.”
One commented, “That flame was huge!”
“Thankfully, nothing serious occurred,” remarked another user.
Given Irene’s fortunate escape from harm, some netizens injected humour into their responses.
“Sis, your hair was on fire, but you still struck a pose,” read one comment. “That’s dedication.”
Others found irony in the situation, noting Irene’s role in the 1992 drama series Vengeance, known in Chinese as “fire rose.”
