21-3-2024 (SINGAPORE) A dramatic police raid unfolded at a massage parlour located on the third floor of People’s Park Centre, with officers resorting to smashing the glass door after the masseuse inside refused to grant them entry.
According to reports from Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (March 20), resulting in the arrest of a 58-year-old woman suspected of providing sexual services.
The raid followed earlier reports from the Chinese evening daily on Feb 24, which suggested that one or more massage parlours on the same floor of the shopping centre were offering illicit services.
A customer who had allegedly been offered such services was reportedly assured of safety by a masseuse, claiming that authorities had conducted checks the day before. However, the subsequent police action proved otherwise.
Upon arriving at the scene, Shin Min observed a cordoned-off area around the parlour, with police officers collecting evidence while mall security officers maintained order.
Shards of glass littered the entrance, attracting the attention of curious onlookers. The massage parlour, divided by a blue curtain, concealed the massage area towards the back.
Although more than one woman is suspected of involvement in providing sexual services, none were present during the raid. The operator of the establishment is also under investigation for operating without a valid licence.
Additionally, a woman claiming to be the landlord expressed distress over the shattered glass door, stating that the tenant had initially leased the unit for a hair salon and had not anticipated its use for vice-related activities. “They just said they were providing hair services; I never thought that things would turn out this way,” she lamented.
