14-3-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A Thai woman who went missing on March 8 has been found and arrested by Malaysian police, according to a Thai restaurant owner in Kuala Lumpur. The 26-year-old woman, Chutimon “Care” Jantawisai, had traveled from her hometown in Loei province to work at a karaoke bar in Kanchanaburi province but lost contact with her family after a phone argument with her boyfriend.
The Narathiwat Provincial Immigration Office revealed that Care had left Thailand for Malaysia on February 28 via the Su-ngai Kolok border checkpoint. She held a tourist visa, allowing her to stay in the country for 30 days. Immigration records indicated that Care had previously traveled to Malaysia twice at the end of last year, staying for approximately 10 to 20 days each time. Authorities suspected that she might have had a friend in the country.
The President of the Kanchanaburi Rescue Foundation, Kwanchai Tirasin, received information about Care from a Thai man named Yot. Yot, who owned a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, informed Kwanchai that Care had been arrested in the city of Kuantan. Care reached out to Yot for assistance through Facebook Messenger. However, Yot explained that her mobile phone and personal belongings had been confiscated under local law, preventing her from contacting her family.
Yot did not disclose the nature of the crime for which Care was arrested but mentioned that the interrogation and investigation process would likely take around two weeks before authorities would consider granting bail. He assured Care’s family that she was safe.
It is suspected that Care may have entered Malaysia and attempted to work without permission, potentially violating immigration regulations. The details surrounding her arrest and the subsequent legal proceedings will be revealed in due course.
Care’s family and concerned authorities await the completion of her interrogation, hoping for further clarity and information regarding her situation.
