13-3-2024 (BANGKOK) Ko Muang Phet, the majestic albino buffalo owned by Damrongsak Morakot in Phetchaburi province, has recently grabbed headlines after being sold for a staggering 18 million baht (S$672.644).
Famed for its striking appearance and immense size, this buffalo has gained renown for its exceptional breeding capabilities. A remarkable 90% of its offspring inherit the albino trait, making it a valuable asset in the buffalo breeding industry.
Adding to its acclaim, Ko Muang Phet has also left its mark in the entertainment realm, featuring as the character Ai Khlaow’s buffalo in the latest rendition of the popular “Mon Rak Luk Thung” TV drama.
Despite being only about five years old and standing at an impressive height of 180cm, Ko Muang Phet holds the title of Thailand’s premier giant breeding buffalo, dominating competitions for years.
However, it has now retired from competitions to focus on its role in producing the next generation.
The recent buzz was generated when Wanasuwan Farm in Chiang Rai acquired this star buffalo for the unprecedented sum of 18 million baht – marking the highest-priced buffalo acquisition ever at the 12th Uthai Thani Thai Buffalo Festival held last weekend.
Damrongsak shared his journey of exploring the potential of Thailand’s buffalo industry, starting with the purchase and raising of ordinary buffaloes. Gradually, he built up his 9 Morakot Farm in Phetchaburi’s Tha Yang district, which began yielding annual profits of up to 8 million baht. Ko Muang Phet, nurtured like a beloved child, became the pride of his farm.
While bidding farewell to Ko Muang Phet was a tough decision, Damrongsak hopes its new owner will carry on its legacy and contribute to the advancement of Thailand’s albino buffalo industry.
