10-3-2024 (BANGKOK) In a sting operation targeting alleged prostitution, Bangkok police apprehended an overweight woman after discovering an online advertisement offering sex services by similarly sized women.
The arrest took place on Saturday night at a hotel on Ram Intra 66 Road in Bang Khen district, following an undercover officer’s engagement in the sting operation. Pol Maj Gen Theeradet Thumsuthee, the investigative commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, revealed that the suspect, 49-year-old Sopang Thongdonmuean, was taken into custody. During the arrest, police confiscated two sex toys and numerous condoms from the suspect.
The operation began when police discovered an online advertisement on an unspecified platform, X, offering unlimited sex services with overweight women at a fee of 1,800 baht for each woman. The undercover officer transferred the fee to a bank account owned by Ms Sopang before the arranged meeting at the hotel.
Weighing approximately 130 kilograms, Ms Sopang confessed to the crime, admitting to receiving an 800-baht share of the service fee for each overweight woman she facilitated, according to the commander.
On the night of the operation, Ms Sopang was accompanied by seven other overweight women. However, only Ms Sopang was arrested, while the others were released after providing their information to the police.
Pol Maj Gen Theeradet emphasized that the case revolves around prostitution catering to those with a preference for 3XL-sized women. The police conducted proactive measures to suppress potential related crimes, he added.
