5-3-2024 (BANGKOK) A fight between approximately 20 Filipino transgender women and four Thai counterparts broke out at a restaurant in Soi Sukhumvit 11 near Nana BTS station, prompting the intervention of police officers from Lumphini station on Monday (March 4).
According to a friend of one of the victims, one Thai individual sustained injuries during the altercation. The two factions had reportedly engaged in verbal disputes in the past, but this was the first instance of physical violence.
Lumphini station chief, Pol. Col. Yingyos Suwanno, dispatched officers to the scene to quell the fight, ensure public safety, and invite all parties involved for questioning at the police station.
Investigators are currently conducting interviews with both groups and witnesses to ascertain the root cause of the altercation. Additionally, they will be examining the travel documents of non-Thai individuals to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
On Monday, around 100 people, predominantly Thai transgender women, gathered at the police station seeking updates on the incident. One individual expressed the desire for increased police patrols in Soi Sukhumvit 11/1 to prevent further assaults on Thai transgender women.
