5-3-2024 (BANGKOK) A former ammunition salesman has been apprehended by the police in Bangkok for allegedly engaging in the illegal sale of bullets online. The arrest led to the discovery of a staggering 31,800 cartridges at the suspect’s residence in the Klong Toey district.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Commissioner, Pol Maj Gen Theeradet Thumsuthee, announced on Tuesday the detention of 66-year-old San Panjitkaeo. The arrest took place when San was in the process of dispatching parcels containing cartridges to buyers at a courier firm’s office on Soi Pridi Banomyong 14 Road in the Watthana district on Monday.
Law enforcement officers conducted a thorough search of San’s parked pickup truck and uncovered an additional 2,500 rounds of ammunition. Subsequently, a search of the suspect’s house, located off Ekamai Road, revealed a cache of 31,800 bullets of various calibers. Notably, among the seized ammunition were 21,150 .22LR cartridges.
San has been charged with illegal possession and sale of ammunition, as per the police.
During questioning, the suspect revealed that he had worked as a salesman for an ammunition supplier for a year after closing down his construction materials company. Following his employment, he resorted to purchasing cartridges from illicit sources and selling them to customers associated with his former company. According to the police, San admitted to carrying out this illicit business for approximately seven months, earning over 100,000 baht per month.
