3-3-2024 (NEW DELHI) Indian business tycoon and billionaire Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of the renowned conglomerate Reliance Industries, pulled out all the stops to celebrate the impending union of his son, Anant Ambani, with a lavish pre-wedding extravaganza in Gujarat, India. The highlight of the event was a headline performance by global pop sensation Rihanna, who rarely graces the stage for public singing appearances.
With a fortune estimated at a staggering US$113 billion, Mukesh Ambani spared no expense to ensure that the pre-wedding festivities for his son and future daughter-in-law, Radhika Merchant, were nothing short of spectacular. The celebration kicked off with the theme “An Evening in Everland” and reached its pinnacle with a private concert by the Barbadian superstar, Rihanna.
Rihanna, known for redirecting her focus towards personal business ventures in recent years, made a grand return to the stage following her notable performance at the last Super Bowl half-time show. Unlike the non-remunerative tradition of Super Bowl performances, Rihanna’s appearance at the Ambani pre-wedding event reportedly came with a substantial paycheck of around US$6.3 million, approximately 50 million Hong Kong dollars.
The pop queen graced the occasion with a performance of 19 of her hit songs, including chart-toppers like “Work,” “Umbrella,” “Stay,” and “Diamonds.” Embracing the local culture, she adorned an Indian-style green sheer garment and took a moment on stage to express her gratitude, stating, “Thank you to the Ambani family. I am here tonight to celebrate Anant and Radhika’s wedding. Thank you for inviting me. May God bless your union, and I wish you all the best and congratulations.” Post-performance, Rihanna expressed her fondness for India and her desire to return, saying, “The show was the best. I haven’t done a real show in 8 years. So I want to come back.”
Rihanna’s departure from the event matched the buzz of her entrance, as she engaged with paparazzi and policewomen, exuding high spirits. Beyond Rihanna’s star power, the pre-wedding party became a convergence of global elites, with attendees including Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates, among others.
Speculation is rife that Rihanna’s decision to perform was influenced not only by the substantial financial reward but also by potential business prospects. Rumors suggest she aims to collaborate with Ambani to introduce her beauty brand to the Indian market.
Mukesh Ambani, accustomed to hosting grand events, notably invited Beyonce to perform at a private party for his daughter’s wedding in 2018, reportedly for a similar fee of US$6 million. This recent opulent affair further solidifies the Ambani family’s reputation for unparalleled hospitality and the ability to orchestrate unforgettable experiences.
