21-2-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) On February 21, the former Chief Minister of Sarawak, Abdul Taib Mahmud, breathed his last at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur. Tun Taib, 87, passed away at 4:28 am, as confirmed by his daughter, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, in a Facebook post.
His body will lie at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur before being transported back to Kuching, Sarawak. Abdul Taib Mahmud held the position of Sarawak’s chief minister for an impressive tenure of over three decades, spanning from 1981.
State Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced that a state funeral will be conducted in his honor at the New Sarawak Legislative Complex.
