8-2-2024 (BANGKOK) Thai Airways has made a significant move by initiating legal proceedings against a passenger who voiced criticism of the airline’s decision to divert a flight. The action comes in response to a Facebook post made by the passenger regarding a flight diversion due to adverse weather conditions, which Thai Airways views as detrimental to its reputation.
The incident unfolded just four days ago when an Airbus A350 flying from Bangkok to Melbourne was forced to divert to Sydney due to heavy fog, which reduced ground visibility to 200 meters. This unforeseen diversion caused the flight to arrive at its destination four hours later than originally scheduled, as documented by Flightradar24.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the captain’s decision, the passenger took to Facebook to vent his frustration. His comments regarding the weather conditions and concerns about fuel levels prompted a response from Captain Faisal, a prominent pilot with 200,000 followers on Facebook, who refuted the accusations.
In response to the online criticism, Thai Airways has chosen to pursue legal action against the passenger. According to Thairath, a national newspaper, the critical post was subsequently removed by the passenger following the pilot’s rebuttal. The passenger has also expressed a willingness to offer apologies to Captain Faisal and the airline’s management upon their return to Thailand.
