4-2-2024 (NEW YORK) According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Feb 3, Elon Musk’s use of illegal drugs was commonly known among several current and former directors of Tesla and SpaceX. The newspaper reported that there were concerns about the extent of Musk’s drug use and that he consumed drugs with some board members, citing witnesses and those briefed on the matter.
The board did not conduct investigations into the issue, nor did it document any concerns, as per the report.
This week, a Delaware judge criticized the relationship between Musk and his directors and cited conflicts of interest within the board when ruling that Musk’s $55 billion pay package was excessive.
Neither Musk nor his lawyer, Alex Spiro, responded to requests for comment from the WSJ.
In a previous report by the WSJ, it was stated that Musk had used LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms, often at private parties. In response to that report, Spiro had claimed that Musk was regularly and randomly drug tested at SpaceX and had never failed a test.
The WSJ report on Feb 3 also mentioned that some friends and directors felt compelled to use illegal drugs with Musk to avoid upsetting him. The paper cited individuals who stated that they did not want to risk “losing the social capital” that came with being in Musk’s circle.
In January, Musk responded to the WSJ story about his alleged drug use on X (formerly known as Twitter). He posted, “Whatever I’m doing, I should obviously keep doing it!” Musk cited Tesla and SpaceX as the world’s most valuable car and space companies and added, “If drugs actually helped improve my net productivity over time, I would definitely take them!”
Musk currently oversees six companies: Tesla, SpaceX, X (formerly Twitter), The Boring Co (a tunneling venture), Neuralink (a brain implant developer), and xAI.
