2-2-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A total of 131 Rohingya and Myanmar detainees managed to escape from a temporary immigration detention centre in Bidor following a riot that erupted at the facility.
According to Tapah OCPD Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi, the escaped individuals consist of 115 Rohingya and 16 Myanmar nationals, all of whom are males.
Tragically, it is believed that one detainee lost their life in an accident along KM335 of the North-South Expressway.
“On Thursday (Feb 1), at approximately 9:50 pm, the Tapah police operations center received a distress call reporting that 131 detainees had fled from the depot,” stated Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi.
Efforts to locate the escaped detainees are currently underway, with the involvement of the Third Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF), the state police contingent’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Bukit Aman CID.
