2-2-2024 (SINGAPORE) Singapore Airlines (SIA) has made significant progress in Fortune magazine’s esteemed ranking of the most admired companies in the world, moving up two spots to secure the 29th position. The list, published on January 31, is based on a survey conducted among 3,720 executives, directors, and securities analysts, who were asked to select the ten companies they admired the most.
The survey, initiated in 1997, evaluates companies’ reputations based on nine key attributes, including quality of management, innovation, people management, and global competitiveness. In 2023, SIA held the 31st position, while in 2022 and 2021, it was ranked 32nd and 34th respectively.
SIA proudly stands as the only Singapore-based company among the top 50 on the 2024 list. Another notable Singaporean firm on the list is agribusiness group Wilmar International, securing the 310th place.
Within the top 50, SIA is the second-highest-ranked Asian company, as the list is predominantly dominated by firms from the United States. Leading the Asian companies is Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor, securing the 25th position. SIA’s Chief Executive, Goh Choon Phong, expressed his excitement over the ranking, emphasizing that it will inspire the airline to continue delivering a “world-class end-to-end travel experience” for its customers.
South Korea’s Samsung Electronics is the third-highest-ranked Asian company, placed at 45th on the list.
Taking the top spot for the 17th consecutive year is technology giant Apple, solidifying its position as the most admired company. Tech firm Microsoft claims the second spot, surpassing e-commerce giant Amazon, which has now fallen to third place. Berkshire Hathaway, the investment conglomerate led by billionaire Warren Buffett, secures the fourth position, followed by financial services firm JPMorgan Chase in fifth place.
Among the airlines listed, US carrier Delta Air Lines secures the 11th spot, emerging as the top-ranked airline among the eight featured. SIA occupies the second position in the airline industry, while another US carrier, United Airlines, claims the third spot.
Encouraged by robust travel demand, the SIA Group achieved a record net profit of $1.44 billion for the half-year ending in September 2023. This figure marks a significant 55% increase from $927 million during the same period the previous year.
