31-1-2024 (SINGPAORE) Three individuals have been apprehended in Singapore on charges of drug trafficking following a series of raids, resulting in the seizure of illicit substances with an estimated street value of S$470,000 (US$350,000), according to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). The seized contraband includes 2.6 kilograms of cannabis, along with various other narcotics such as Ecstasy, Ice, ketamine, cocaine, Erimin-5 tablets, LSD stamps, and bottles suspected to contain gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a recreational drug.
The CNB revealed that two men and one woman were arrested during separate operations. On Monday afternoon, CNB officers intercepted a vehicle along Havelock Road and apprehended a 35-year-old male Singaporean driver. The search of his vehicle yielded approximately 955 grams of cannabis, 166 grams of Ecstasy, 138 grams of Ice, 24 grams of ketamine, 160 Erimin-5 tablets, 107 LSD stamps, and five bottles of liquid suspected to contain GHB. The confiscated drugs from the car alone are estimated to be worth around $118,000.
Simultaneously, CNB officers executed a raid at a residential unit near Bedok Reservoir Road, resulting in the arrest of a 35-year-old Singaporean man and a 23-year-old Singaporean woman. The search of the premises uncovered approximately 1,647 grams of cannabis, 704 grams of Ice, 346 tablets, 332 grams of Ecstasy, 22 grams of ketamine, and 11 grams of cocaine. The drugs seized from the residential unit are estimated to have a value of approximately $352,000.
CNB emphasized that the quantity of cannabis and Ice confiscated during these operations could have potentially fueled the addiction of around 850 individuals for a week. Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested individuals are currently ongoing.
Trafficking or offering to traffic controlled drugs is considered a serious offense under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act. Individuals found guilty of trafficking more than 250 grams of methamphetamine or 500 grams of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
