30-1-2024 (HANOI) A radio and television station in the Lao province of Xaysomboun, funded by the Vietnamese Government, was officially inaugurated and handed over during a ceremony held on January 29. This project, made possible through non-refundable aid, is a result of collaborative efforts between the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee, the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee, the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, and the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), with support from contractors and the local community.
During the ceremony, Tran Minh Hung, Deputy General Director of VOV, expressed his confidence that the newly established station would greatly contribute to local communication efforts. Phoikham Hungbounnhuong, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Governor of Xaysomboun, acknowledged the vital role played by the Vietnamese Government in the rapid socio-economic development of the province. He highlighted the significance of aid projects such as this, which have propelled the region forward.
Construction of the station took place from 2019 to 2023, with a total investment exceeding 118 billion VND (approximately 4.91 million USD). The Vietnamese Government provided 115 billion VND as non-refundable aid for the project. The station, located in Phuhuaxang village, Anuvong district, covers an area of 5,587 square meters and includes an office headquarters, residential quarters for staff, a 75-meter television tower, and various auxiliary facilities.
The establishment of this radio and television station represents another milestone in the strong bilateral relations between Vietnam and Laos. It symbolizes Vietnam’s commitment to supporting its neighboring country’s development and fostering closer ties in the field of media and communication. The station will undoubtedly enhance the dissemination of news, information, and entertainment to the local population and contribute to the overall progress of Xaysomboun province.
