30-1-2024 (BANGKOK) A 53-year-old Swiss man, identified only as Roland, confessed to police that he accidentally strangled his Thai wife, Orathai Posee-ngarm, during a heated dispute. However, the investigation took a dark and perplexing twist when police discovered a playing card lodged in the woman’s throat.
The interrogation took place on Monday at the Khon Buri police station, where Roland had gone to request the return of his seized passport. Initially, he had expressed concern about his wife’s sudden disappearance. But during the five-hour-long questioning, he admitted that he unintentionally caused her death.
According to Roland’s statement, he carried his wife’s lifeless body on a motorcycle and disposed of it in a cornfield located in Ban Khok Kruad village, tambon Chaliang, Khon Buri district. The cornfield is situated approximately six kilometres away from their residence.
Upon examining the body, authorities made a chilling discovery. They found a playing card lodged in the woman’s throat, indicating a sinister element to the incident. Additionally, traces of adhesive tape were found on her mouth, further deepening the mystery surrounding her death.
The victim’s father, Tod Posee-ngarm, expressed heartbreak and anger towards the Swiss man, as their family had treated him with utmost kindness. He never expected such cruelty from someone they had welcomed into their lives.
Orathai, aged 46, had gone missing from her home in Ban Khok Kwan, tambon Cha Liang, Khon Buri district, on January 8. She had inherited around 13 million baht from her first Swiss husband, who passed away in 2021. After remarrying Roland, the couple had relocated to Thailand two years ago.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, as authorities strive to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Orathai’s death and the disturbing presence of the playing card in her throat.
