29-1-2024 (SINGAPORE) Migrant workers in Singapore were treated to a remarkable experience as they received free tickets to attend a live Coldplay concert at the National Stadium. The generous gesture was made possible through a collaboration between Love Button, a global non-profit organization, and Krsna’s Free Meals, a local charity providing free meals to those in need.
Krsna’s Free Meals surprised the migrant workers by hiding the concert tickets in packets of nuts and distributing them randomly, creating an element of excitement among the lucky winners. Volunteers from the organization accompanied the winners to the concert, ensuring they had a memorable time by providing dinner, transportation, and guidance throughout the event.
A viral TikTok video shared by Krsna’s Free Meals showcased the touching moment when they gave away eight Coldplay tickets to the deserving migrant workers. The video has garnered over 133,000 views, highlighting the significance of the event.
Love Button, in collaboration with Coldplay, selected Krsna’s Free Meals as one of three charities to receive tickets as part of the band’s ‘Music of the Spheres’ world tour. To further strengthen their bond with the community, staff members from both Love Button and Coldplay volunteered at the Singapore-based soup kitchen on January 23 and 27.
Using a “Willy Wonka-style golden ticket” method, Krsna’s Free Meals randomly chose the ticket winners. Each winner discovered a golden ticket hidden inside individual bags of nuts, generously donated by a volunteer for the occasion. The charity took special care to ensure equitable distribution of the free tickets, avoiding any bias towards their own volunteers.
After collecting the winners’ details, Krsna’s Free Meals instructed them to gather at their kitchen on January 27. There, the workers received a complimentary dinner and transportation to the concert venue, accompanied by dedicated volunteers. A chartered bus was arranged to shuttle the winners and volunteers to the National Stadium, eliminating any concerns about logistics and allowing the workers to fully enjoy the experience.
Among the volunteers who accompanied the workers were Sabine, Alexander, and Lisa Ramaker, who have been actively involved with Krsna’s Free Meals for over four years. Alexander even sponsored Coldplay t-shirts for the migrant workers to wear at the concert, adding an extra touch of excitement and unity.
The winners of the tickets came from various dormitories and companies, reflecting the diversity of the migrant worker community. The random selection process ensured that individuals from different backgrounds, including North Indians, South Indians, and even someone from Myanmar, had the opportunity to attend the concert. Despite not being familiar with Coldplay’s songs, the workers embraced the music, dancing and enjoying the spectacle.
For both the migrant workers and the volunteers, the concert proved to be a meaningful and joyous experience. The volunteers had the chance to witness the workers’ happiness and witness their enjoyment throughout the event.
