The 55-year-old celebrity claimed that the prolonged kiss was a demonstration of her motherly love towards her daughter.
The unexpected act of affection took place on the set of the Chinese New Year’s Eve variety program titled ‘2024 WE ARE 我们的除夕夜’. As part of their performance, Lotus Wang and her daughter, Huang Yuting, were engaged in a dance routine, which culminated in the controversial 20-second lip lock. The audience present during the taping reportedly reacted with continuous screams, expressing their astonishment at the unusual display of affection.
When questioned about whose idea it was, Huang Yuting denied any involvement, stating, “How is that possible? Of course, it was mum’s idea. How could I possibly want to kiss her?” The 20-year-old initially hesitated to participate in the kiss.
Lotus Wang admitted that she did not consult her daughter about the kiss before the performance, anticipating her shyness. She explained that when her children were younger, she and her husband would shower them with hugs and kisses, but as they reached their teenage years, they began to resist such displays of affection. The actress wanted to use this opportunity to convey the love that parents worldwide have for their children, particularly the bond between a mother and her daughter.
In addition to the controversial lip kiss, Wang has also been encouraging her daughter to dress more provocatively for performances. Reportedly, the 55-year-old actress prepared five sets of costumes for the show and was still deliberating on her final choice as of January 19. When asked if she would make any adjustments based on her mother’s feedback, Huang Yuting stated that she believed her current outfit was adequate.
