26-1-2024 (LONDON) Britain’s King Charles has entered the hospital to undergo a scheduled “corrective procedure” to address an enlarged prostate, as reported by The Sun newspaper. The king arrived at the private London Clinic, where his daughter-in-law Kate, the Princess of Wales, is also receiving treatment following her recent abdominal surgery. It is expected that King Charles will remain in the hospital for two nights.
Last week, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles, 75, would undergo the procedure this week to address a benign condition commonly found in men over 50. The palace has not yet commented on The Sun’s report.
Ahead of the treatment, Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, reassured the public that he was “fine” and eager to return to his royal duties. His public engagements have been postponed to allow for a brief period of recuperation.
Typically, the royal family maintains privacy regarding medical matters, considering them personal affairs. However, Charles chose to share details of his condition to encourage other men experiencing similar symptoms to seek medical attention.
Since news of Charles’ diagnosis became public, the state-run National Health Service has witnessed a significant surge in visits to its webpage providing advice on prostate enlargement, with an increase of 1,000%.
This treatment is one of several health challenges faced by the royal family in recent weeks. The Princess of Wales, Kate, 42, is currently recovering in the hospital after undergoing surgery for a non-cancerous condition that has not been specified.
Additionally, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York and the ex-wife of Charles’ younger brother Prince Andrew, revealed on Monday that she was shocked after being diagnosed with a malignant form of skin cancer.
