24-1-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received authorization to proceed with charging Tun Daim Zainuddin; however, the 84-year-old former finance minister’s hospitalization has delayed the execution of the legal action.
MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, stated that the agency had intended to bring Daim’s case to court last week after obtaining consent from the Attorney General’s Chambers. Following the green light, MACC officers promptly informed Daim’s lawyers of the impending charges.
“However, as we prepared to charge him (Daim), my officers were informed that he has been admitted,” Azam said in an interview with The Star on Wednesday (Jan 24).
Azam did not disclose the specific charges against Daim. Additionally, he expressed frustration over the lack of a clear explanation regarding Daim’s hospitalization and his current health condition.
“The doctors have not been forthcoming when my officers inquired,” claimed the MACC Chief Commissioner.
Despite the delay caused by Daim’s hospitalization, Azam affirmed that Daim would eventually be brought to court to face the charges.
“For now, we will monitor the situation. However, it is imperative that we proceed with bringing him to court,” he stated.
