17-1-2024 (PYONGYANG) In a devastating incident, a passenger train in North Korea overturned on December 26, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives, as reported by Radio Free Asia (RFA) on Tuesday.
According to a local source quoted by RFA, the ill-fated train was en route from Pyongyang to Geumgol, both located in South Hamgyong Province, when it encountered a steep incline along its path. Compounded by the dilapidated state of the railroad tracks and a shortage of power, the train experienced a slide back and ultimately derailed.
The source revealed that two prestigious train carriages, situated immediately behind the locomotive, managed to remain on the tracks and their occupants survived the accident. However, the report indicated that the majority of passengers in the remaining seven train cars perished, resulting in a devastating death toll surpassing 400 individuals.
