15-1-2024 (NEW DELHI) A passenger on IndiGo Airlines has been detained for assaulting a pilot at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, following a 13-hour delay due to adverse weather conditions. The incident occurred on Jan 14 when the flight, destined for Goa, faced disruptions caused by dense fog and cold weather in northern India.
The video footage posted on Instagram shows a passenger in a yellow hoodie aggressively slapping the pilot during an announcement, prompting two stewardesses to intervene. The passenger was later detained after IndiGo Airlines filed a complaint, and investigations are ongoing. The police may charge the individual for voluntarily causing harm.
The airline has initiated an internal committee to address the incident and is considering placing the passenger on their ‘no-fly list.’ The delayed flights and cancellations in Delhi were attributed to severe weather conditions, causing low visibility.
Commenting on the incident, one Instagram user acknowledged the challenging weather conditions in Delhi, emphasizing the pilots’ limitations. However, another user highlighted the passengers’ frustration, stating their concern for reaching their destination safely.
Flight services and train schedules to Delhi were significantly impacted, with numerous delays reported due to the dense fog.
